120 young people and their families escaped the stresses of cancer, thanks to Luna Park and Canteen
Luna Park Sydney showed their support for young people impacted by cancer by donating park entry to Canteen on Friday 30th September 2022. The park played host to some 120 individuals from the Canteen community, providing young people and their families the opportunity to escape the stresses of cancer and experience all that Luna Park's facilities and rides had to offer.
Luna Park CEO, John Hughes, said “We were excited and honoured to be able to donate these tickets to the Canteen community and offer our support to young people impacted by cancer.”
Luna Park has partnered with Canteen to sell bandannas and offer this day of respite in support of Canteen’s National Bandanna Day, which will take place on Friday 28th October this year.
Now in its 28th year, Bandanna Day has raised over $35 million to support young people aged 12-25 impacted by cancer. Funds raised by Bandanna Day will provide vital counselling, peer support programs and a 24/7 online service for young people impacted by cancer.
Angie Elder, Canteen State Manager for NSW, said “This event was exciting to Canteen and everyone who came along as it provided our community with so many lovely moments, despite the rain, and marked one of the first in-person events for us since COVID restrictions had eased. Thank you to our host venue at Kirribilli Community Centre.
“Events like this are so important as they allow our young people and their families to connect with others who are also impacted by cancer.”
When cancer comes crashing into a young person’s life, it is important that we are there to support them not only through counselling, but also by providing face-to-face support. Group activities and events give our young people the opportunity to connect and interact with others who have shared their experiences and also offer some reprieve from the impacts of cancer. Simon Davie, Canteen’s Head of Strategic Relationships, said “There was so much excitement and happiness buzzing in the air at the Luna Park event. When the bubble tea arrived from Chatime, our Principal Bandanna Day Partner, it buzzed even louder. I would like to thank Luna Park and Chatime for their generosity in supporting Canteen and National Bandanna Day this year.”
